Before boy bands such as One Direction, 'N Sync and even before the Backstreet Boys there was the New Kids on the Block. Originally named Nynuk and formed in 1984 - the New Kids popularity exploded in the mid through late eighties with NKOTB mania. That was before the big "boy band revolt" in the early nineties, which was primarily due to Grunge and Alternative music becoming a major mainstream contender.
The band consists of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood - all from Boston, Massachusetts. In 1994 NKOTB disbanded due to their fan base diminishing and the shift in popular music. The members had other creative aspirations they wished to pursue as well. Before breaking up the super group produced chart toppers in the late '80s such as "Please Don't Go Girl", "Hangin' Tough" and "Step by Step" in the early '90s.
